BiscuitFest occurs alongside the regular Market Square Farmer's Market, and biscuit festivities extend down into the Market St. Fronted by visual artist Aaron Martin and The Weeks' guitarist Johny Fisher, the live band features a shifting cast of local talent. Whether it's for good or for the season, Okey Dokey is the product of that natural reformation that occurs when musicians part ways. You can't fully appreciate the long history of recorded music without taking time to look back at the breakups. “Whether it’s love or real connection or even an actual drug, we’re all looking for something that makes us feel like we’re a part of something good and meaningful.” “The idea behind the title Drug for the Modern Age is that we’re all trying to find the drug that helps us get through life and deal with the pressures and challenges that almost everyone in our generation faces,” says Gabe. Meanwhile, their daringly intimate lyrics both unsettle and engage, asking questions and encouraging reflection on the part of the listener. In achieving that dynamic, Nashville-based Kopecky (whose lineup also includes guitarist Steven Holmes, bassist Corey Oxendine, cellist Markus Midkiff, and drummer David Krohn) offer moments of symphonic grandeur alongside edgy, electronic-leaning innovation. ![]() “Our goal was to talk about all these very serious things we were dealing with, but in a way that felt nothing like wallowing and more like standing triumphantly, or even dancing our way through it.” ![]() “The album was written in this weird time of so much pain but also happiness, and that really informed the writing and recording,” says vocalist/guitarist Gabe Simon, who co-founded the group with vocalist/keyboardist Kelsey Kopecky in 2007. The second album from six-piece Kopecky, Drug for the Modern Age takes the many shake-ups the band’s endured over the past few years and turns them into inspiration for groove-driven, melody-heavy alt-pop that’s intensely emotional and strangely exhilarating. The Lonely Biscuits continue to write, record, and perform new music that can relate with anyone, and they will continue to share it with as many people as possible. Their latest EP “A Girl Named Destiny”, charted on Billboard’s Regional Heatseekers Chart, and gained national coverage from numerous notable music blogs and magazines. The band has independently released three EPs. The band was recently named mtvU’s first ever “College Artist of The Year”, and traveled to Austin, TX, to perform at the mtvU Woodies Festival at SXSW. The Lonely Biscuits have toured the country playing at universities, festivals, and clubs, gaining dedicated fans everywhere they go. ![]() Blending soul, funk, and pop with rap The Lonely Biscuits have created a unique sound that has appealed to a wide array of people. Then, two months later, Nick Byrd joined the band as an official biscuit playing bass guitar. John Paterini, current lead singer of the band came into the picture in September after hearing some of their tunes from his dorm room across the hall. Founding members Grady Wenrich and Sam Gidley were random roommates at Belmont University, in Nashville, where they started jamming and making music out of their dorm room. The Lonely Biscuits, formerly known as Gravy and the Biscuits have been together since September of 2011. ![]()
